As you know, the NJ Committee of the GCA gave the Mercer County Boys & Girls Clubs, ("The Club") $5,000 in (2020) and $5,000 in 2021 for their garden. The project that the SBGC proposed is named "Growing Future Gardeners." It is to include workshops that will teach and engage the children in gardening (3 workshops per year). Our members have already planted, raked and painted in the garden. Last fall, Tracy Johnson and Anne Gates went down to the garden and did a bulb workshop and planted Daffodils and Alliums with children. It was fun and it's time for another trip to the Garden!
Anne Gates & Stacy Drummond will be leading a workshop with children "Meet Parsley, Basil & Thyme" that come to the "Club" after school.
Herbs will be chosen that will be fun to touch, taste, & grow. We will have this be a hands-on experience with the children, talk about each herb, answer questions and get in the dirt to plant. We'll also talk a bit about recipes as the "Club" has cooking classes where the herbs will be used. New raised builds will be waiting for planting, so Stony Brook members will mentor children in planting in the garden and also do a take home project with them.
